The province’s retailing system has been in operation since 2018, and the new PC government has promised to make a number of changes to the current model. One change could allow privately owned stores to compete with the provincial Cannabis NB brand in some areas, and a number of private companies have submitted applications.

StratCann reports that the successful proponents of these tenders will be required to get their stores ready to open and acquire any applicable licensing from the province. They will also need to complete a review of their sites to ensure they are compliant with the province’s regulatory guidelines.

The public can currently purchase recreational cannabis from Cannabis NB, which has locations in the city’s downtown and Jersey Avenue areas, as well as online. Other than those stores, adults must be 19 years or older to purchase cannabis products in New Brunswick. Adults who want to transport cannabis outside the province must follow the same rules as those for importing and exporting any product, and must keep their purchases in sight at all times.
